I am Brian Hackett.  I work for Mozilla on the Firefox web browser.  I mostly do JavaScript static analysis and performance work, and also C/C++ static analysis for bugfinding.  Earlier, I got a Ph.D. at Stanford and a B.S. at Cornell.  This blog is about the other stuff I do.

I like trees, mountains, water and wildlife (not an exclusive list!), and do a fair amount of outdoorsy stuff.  This includes scuba diving, sea kayaking, whitewater kayaking, sailing, road biking, mountain biking, backpacking, canyoning, backcountry skiing and surfing. A few more sports I’d like to pick up.  I also do landscape and wildlife photography.

In December 2011 I began living in a tent trailer, working remotely and roaming around and enjoying the western US. In August 2013 I met my girlfriend, Lisa, who lives much the same lifestyle. Less than two weeks later I moved into her van and have been having the time of my life. Since 2008 I’ve taken trips of a couple months away from school and work roughly once a year, to see more of the world.
